Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can occur in both combat and non-combat military veterans. Those who experience PTSD have difficulty with flashbacks, nightmares, or intrusive thoughts related to trauma. Hypervigilance is an additional feature of PTSD and maintains activity in the fight-flight system well after dates of military service. This has the consequence of experiencing a daily feeling of being on edge. Scanning rooms, looking for exits and sitting against walls provides a short-term sense of security, but is costly in the long-term. Hypervigilance negatively impacts energy levels and has a profound effect on concentration, anxiety and agitation. Because it is impossible to be at peace and remain guarded at the same time, hypervigilance pulls us away from life’s most precious moments and the loved ones we wish to share them with.

At Cognitive Behavioral Counseling, it is our mission to reengage you in your life and reconnect you with your loved ones. Utilizing evidence-based treatments, CBC will target the most central areas of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. Using a commination of Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PET), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) , and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), patients are taught skills to end unhealthy avoidance, eliminate flashbacks and nightmares, and once again find peace in their life.
