Bryn Mawr Addiction Counseling

Cognitive Behavioral Counseling provides substance use treatment and addiction counseling for Substance Use Disorders (SUD), co-occurring disorders and behavioral addictions. At Cognitive Behavioral Counseling, we set our patients up for success. Your psychologist will collaborate with you to design a lifestyle that is low risk and relapse free.

Violating Values

While drugs, alcohol, gambling, shopping, eating and sex provide short-term relief from unwanted feelings, they also come at a significant cost. Attempts to avoid emotional pain results in a violation of ones inner most values and negatively impacts spiritual and relational well-being. And here-in lies the problem. Making decisions inconsistent with ones values notoriously leads to feelings of guilt and shame, the hallmarks of addiction.

Here at cognitive behavioral counseling, we will work with you to reconnect with your values and become your true self. You will be an expert at regulating typically avoided emotions so that your life choices are consistent with who you are on the inside.

Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention (MBRP)

Throughout therapy you will also be exposed to mindfulness-based interventions to help reduce racing thoughts, learn to surf the “wave” of cravings and be present when it matters.
